Company Experience Recycling in Jacksonville, Florida

For decades, Southland Waste Services has been serving cities, towns, villages, business and industry in the Jacksonville area. Southland is an important operating unit of Republic Services in the company's overall capability to provide solid waste management and recycling solutions in Florida and throughout the United States.

Southland has a long and proud history dating back to 1977. Felix A. Crawford founded Southland Services of Jacksonville, Inc. to provide solid waste collection services in the growing area.

In a move to expand the company, Southland purchased Seaboard Sanitation in nearby St. Johns County. This acquisition was followed by Oceanway Garbage Service in 1988. In 1991, Covenant Recycling Services was acquired and is now Southland Recycling Services.

By 1995, Southland was providing collection services to 54,000 residential customers in the Recycling in Jacksonville, FloridaJacksonville area. Part of this growth came with the acquisition of All-Jax (Attwoods).  In a strategic move, the same year, Southland merged with Republic Industries.

Continuing to grow under Republic, Henry’s Garbage Service in Clay County, and CDS of North Carolina’s Jacksonville operations were acquired and added to the company in early 1996.

In December 2008, two leading waste services and environmental companies joined to capitalize on their strengths in order to benefit customers, employees, shareholders and the environment. Today Republic Services is the second largest Environmental Company in North America. Republic provides collection, recycling and disposal services to over 13 million residential, commercial and industrial customers monthly through its network of 427 collection companies, 255 Transfer Stations and 86 MRFs in over 40 States and Puerto Rico.
